Our LAMDA Acting exams empower students to master the craft of performance through rigorous training and dramatic exploration. We go beyond simple stagecraft, focusing heavily on in-depth text analysis and the practical application of performance theories and theorists to bring complex scenes and monologues to life.

By fostering critical thinking and strong verbal reasoning, this curriculum provides essential academic support for GCSE, A-Level, and IB English Literature and Drama studies. Students develop exceptional character interpretation, emotional expression, and vocal technique, building the confidence needed for high-stakes public performance.

Verse & Prose

Our Verse and Prose Exams offer a rigorous pathway for students to master the mechanics of language and the science of vocal delivery, moving beyond traditional acting into intellectual scholarship and physiological control. Through in-depth text analysis, students dissect literary devices and authorial intent, providing critical support for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Drama while building the analytical depth needed for educational interviews at top schools and universities.

Our curriculum goes beyond the traditional classroom, placing literature within its authentic, often untold, global historical and political contexts to deepen analytical understanding. Furthermore, students receive expert training in the biological mechanics of speech to achieve precise vocal projection, unparalleled clarity, and genuine emotional connection required for commanding public speaking

Far beyond a simple reading, this program empowers students to bridge analytical depth with dynamic performance.

Through this curriculum students conduct thematic analysis essential for GCSE and A-Level English Literature, study and apply sophisticated literary devices to create compelling interlinking speeches, and hone their research skills for university success. In 2024 The Centre for Education and Youth, carried out an independent study on the impact of LAMDA tuition and examination in schools. The study examined the impact of LAMDA on 3058 students across England in both primary and secondary settings. 52% of the students included in the study had English as an Additional language and 10% had Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Researchers gathered data through surveys of teachers and students, case studies, and through on-site visits.

Improves Confidence

The study found that teachers reported an 80% improvement in student confidence when studying LAMDA, with one teacher stating:

“I’ve has a student who went on to do medicine. LAMDA really benefitted her. She was able to walk into the interview and confidently say what she wanted to do, why, and what she as great at.”

Fosters Transferable skills

The study also found that LAMDA helped to foster transferable skills to support wider curriculum studies such as peer collaboration, enhanced interpersonal skills, better mental wellbeing and resilience, greater emotional intelligence, and supported motor skills.

Boosts Resilience

One headteacher said in the study:

“I think that it’s huge for resilience. The process of having to learn for an exam ahead of time and having that practice in place really helps them with their GCSEs as well.”

Enhances Academic Skills

Academically, LAMDA was shown to enhance creative thinking, accountability for self-directed study, and improved literacy. It also highlighted that the skill set gained through LAMDA supported transitions from primary to secondary education both mentally and academically.

Increases Classroom Engagement

Within the classroom, teachers saw more positive engagement from students who had previously struggled to engage, identifying that LAMDA helped to make aspects of the National Curriculum more accessible to EAL and SEND learners due to the analytical nature of social and historical contexts, and themes presented in the LAMDA curriculum. As well as increasing their abilities in utilising oracy, literacy, communication and critical thinking skills.

Supports SEND Learners

LAMDA has been show to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities as well as encouraging positive behaviour.
One teacher in the study stated:

“I would say that the benefits of LAMDA exams were borderline transformative for some of our autistic learners”

Whilst another teacher, when discussing a student with challenging behaviour and poor school engagement said:

“LAMDA helps remind him about how good he is, that it’s worth persisting. So it is learning how to be that resilient person. I remind him how good it was to get that distinction because that’s the first time he’s hearing that”

Enriches Formal Academic Study

LAMDA curriculum ties into the school curriculum- particularly; English and humanities; with students analysing texts, literary devices, and themes in social and historical contexts; students developed a strong academic basis for wider curriculum subjects increasing academic attainment at GCSE and A-level.

We offer different class sizes and lesson lengths to suit the needs of each individual learner. Class sizes are small to ensure each student gains the individual attention required to complete their qualification to their fullest potential.

For 2:1 classes, students may attend with a friend or sibling of a similar age. We do not recommend a large age gap in shared classes at the content of the syllabus may not be age appropriate for the younger learner and the focus on skills development will be slightly different at each age and stage.

Students aged 5-7 tend to thrive in a 2:1 30-minute class per week

Students aged 8-11 do well in a 2:1 1-hour or 1:1 30-minute class per week.

It is recommended students aged 12+ attend a 1:1 1-hour class per week.

Administration costs

Additional to class fees, each examination has an entry fee set by the LAMDA exam board. The prices of each examination varies depending on the subject and grade. Typically exams are priced between ฿1000 – ฿3800 depending on the grade. Exam fees are collected by the London Conservatoire and paid directly to LAMDA to facilitate the externally assessed examinations.

LAMDA classes are either 1:1 or 2:1 to ensure students are fully supported and their individual needs are catered for.

It is common for younger students (age 5-8) to share a class with another student of a similar age. Sharing a class with a friend or sibling can make LAMDA less intimidating and more fun for younger students and can also help with motivation as they get to showcase their skills to a peer each week. From the age of 10+, students benefit from more individual class time to develop a particular set of skills.

While the pace of progression is flexible to suit individual needs, LAMDA qualifications are rigorous academic and performance exams.

Typically, students prepare for an examination over 16 to 20 weekly lessons. However, for higher grades, some students choose a more measured approach of 32 to 36 weeks to thoroughly master the material, whilst balancing their existing educational or professional workload around their studies.

Examination success requires commitment beyond the classroom; students are expected to engage in self-directed study, including learning lines, revising theoretical concepts, and conducting in-depth research and analysis to fully prepare for their examination.

All LAMDA examinations are externally assessed and accredited. The highest grades directly translate into UCAS points on university applications. LAMDA exams are structured across different levels, each providing a clear path of progression:

Level 1 Exams (Grades 1-3): Equivalent to low grades at GCSE.

Level 2 Exams (Grades 4-5): Equivalent to high-grade GCSEs.

Level 3 Exams (Grades 6-8): Equivalent to AS and A-Levels, offering UCAS points for university applications.

ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (EAL)

At The London Conservatoire, we are committed to supporting all learners in their journey towards LAMDA success. While LAMDA’s assessments are set in English, and students are expected to have a level of English that supports the assessment at their chosen grade, we understand that EAL learners may need additional support.

Throughout their LAMDA training, students work on developing key English skills, including reading, spoken English, and British-English elocution; covering pronunciation, articulation, diction, and expressive speech. This helps EAL learners build a strong command of the English language, ensuring their success not only in LAMDA examinations but in everyday communication as well

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS & DISABILITIES (SEND)

At The London Conservatoire, we are dedicated to providing equal opportunities for all students. Our lessons are carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual, ensuring that every student has the chance to thrive and reach their full potential.

To best support each learner, we may request additional information or suggest a gradual progression through the grades. This approach helps students build confidence and skills at a comfortable pace, ensuring they are fully prepared for success in their exams.

New students are assessed by their teacher to determine the most suitable grade, and we work closely with parents to offer holistic support throughout their learning journey.

In line with LAMDA’s commitment to equal opportunities, reasonable adjustments are available during exams.

Schools looking to enrich their extracurricular programs can partner with The London Conservatoire to bring LAMDA classes directly to their students.

Our LAMDA teacher can visit your school during lunchtime or throughout the school day, offering classes in a similar format to private music lessons. A minimum of 1.5 hours (three lessons) per day is required to secure peripatetic LAMDA tuition.

The London Conservatoire takes care of all administrative responsibilities of tailoring the syllabus and organising examinations, so schools can focus on what matters most; student development.

LAMDA qualifications align with the aims of the UK National Curriculum by fostering advanced oracy, interpretative, and literacy skills, thereby enhancing pupils’ attainment in English, humanities and the performing arts while promoting confidence, critical thinking, and effective self-expression across the wider curriculum.

The London Conservatoire offers bespoke curriculum support. We collaborate with schools to tailor the LAMDA’s syllabus to your specific needs. By incorporating Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-level, and IB texts, we aim to boost student confidence with the text, by ensuring students gain a deeper mastery of the material through a holistic approach and excel in their standardised assessments.

Our LAMDA teacher has UK Qualified Teacher Status (PGCE QTS) and over 13 years teaching experience across the globe. Our teacher holds an enhanced DBS check (on the UK update system) and a Thai Police Check, ensuring a safe and professional learning environment.
